Munja Ceremony | Munj Ceremony Yagnopavit or Upnayan or Janeu Sanskar  Threading Ceremony ( Thread Ceremony ) is performed when a boy enters Brahmacharya. A phase in life of an individual when he starts studying Vedas. Munja ceremony is performed among the Brahmins, Kshatriyas & Vaishya communities. Munj Ceremony is performed when the boy between of 8-12 years of age, an auspicious day is selected as per the Janma Nakshatra of the boy. Vedic Vidhi, provides path to fulfilment of religious Acharas Or Duties conforming to guidelines of Vedic Shastra.

Upanayana, one of the shodasha (16) samskaras is an important milestone in life of a kid. It's the ritual performed when children are ready for starting their vidyabhyasa. Parents usually choose an auspicious muhurtam or moment and exactly on this day and time, Upanayana or thread ceremony will happen. Mother, father along with their elders, relatives and friends, gather in a sacred place and perform this ritual. During this, kid's hair is trimmed in such a way that the patch of hair is left on higher back of the head. It's called Shikha and it is a practical method to let one's consciousness reside in the higher centers of the brain. This will help the student to gain more and more knowledge from the Guru. 

Then, they make them wear yagnopaveetam-a sacred thread. Yagnopaveetham is a triple stranded sacrificial filament joined by a knot called Brahmagranthi that is worn by those initiated into the Gayathri recital. Yagnopaveetham means a sacred covering on the body without which a Yagna or a sacred ritual cannot be performed. Its also called Brahmasuthram. In kannada it is called Janivara. Yagno-pavita means ‘thread of sacrifice’ that symbolizes the sacrifice of ego, anger & selfishness.  After this, the student will be ready for dnyanarjane from Guru. He has to perform trikala sandhya vandana and can participate in the religious, spiritual ceremonies like yagna, Devata pooja. It's that auspicious day when the student will surrender himself to Guru and starts learning vedas and upnishads. This shows the role of Guru in our culture. 

Although now the significance of these rituals have changed drastically during modern days, importance still remains the same. Since ages, it is being performed irrespective of the caste, religion and status. Lord Shri Ram after upanayana went to vedabhyas to Guru Vasishta. So was lord Shri Krishna who went to Saint Sandeepani for dnyanarjane Upanayana is considered to be a rebirth for  vatu. The first birth is from mother and the second one is when he used to go to gurukul after upanayana. That's why is the name Dwija given to vatus signifying the second birth. Our Sanatana Hindu sanskruti has such meaningful, scientific ceremonies for everyone that the effects and positivity can easily be observed after performing them.

It was a happiest day of our lives. UPA means near and NAYANA means eyes. This means that after upanayana the vatu's eyes has to gain the divine shine and brightness by chanting mantras and shlokas. धर्मामध्ये उपनयन करण्यास सांगितले आहे. त्यासाठी उपनयन करणे अत्यंत आवश्यक आहे. कारण उपनयन हा मुलाचा (बटूचा) दुसरा जन्मच समजला जातो. उपनयन झाल्यावर तो 'द्विज' ला प्राप्त होतो. उपनयनाच्या वेळेस गुरु आपली शक्ती बटूच्या शरीरात प्रविष्ट करतात. नवे ज्ञान मिळविण्यासाठी बटूच्या शरीरास शक्तिशाली बनवलं जातं ही शक्ती कायम राहण्यासाठी त्याला गायत्री महामंत्राचा उपदेश केला जातो.⠀

उपनयन संस्कारात जे अन्य विधी केल्या जातात (मेघाजनन) त्यासाठी बटू, अंतर्बाह्य पवित्र होऊन नवे जीवन सुरू करण्यास सिद्ध होऊन त्याचा बुद्धीस वाढ होते. पुढील आयुष्यात त्याने अग्नी आणि सूर्याची उपासना करून त्यांचा सम तेजस्वी बनावे अशी अपेक्षा बाळगली जाते. अश्या दृष्टीने उपनयन संस्कार हा मनुष्याच्या सोळा संस्कारांपैकी एक महत्त्वाचा संस्कार आहे. उपनयन संस्कारानंतर संध्या करणे महत्त्वाचे असते आजच्या काळात देखील काही लोकं संध्याकर्म करतात. तर काही संध्याकर्म करावयाची म्हणून उरकून घेतात. पण प्रश्न असा की संध्या करण्याचा काळ वेळ कोणता?⠀

धर्मसिंधू ग्रंथात असे सांगितले आहे की प्रातःकाळी नक्षत्रे दिसत असता संध्या करणे हा उत्तम काळ आहे. नक्षत्रे अदृश्य होत असता मध्यमकाळ व सूर्योदयानंतरचा काळ कनिष्ठ होय. शास्त्रांमध्ये संध्या करण्यास तिन्ही काळ योग्य सांगितले आहे. मध्याह्न काळची संध्या दुपारी 2 ते संध्याकाळच्या आत करावी. संध्याकाळची संध्या सूर्यास्तापूर्वीच करावी. हा उत्तम काळ होय. सूर्यास्त झाल्यानंतरचा काळ हा मध्यम व नक्षत्रे दिसू लागल्यानंतरचा काळ कनिष्ठ असे. संध्या कमीत कमी प्रातःकाळी तरी करावी. संध्या करण्याचा मागे मोठं सामर्थ्य दडलेले आहे.
